With the arrival of spring, it is time to start planning activities to take advantage of the longer days and the return of sun. England has a variety of lakes that give you and your family the opportunity to enjoy many different activities during the weekends or bank holidays.
Bedfordshire county has a rich history and many interesting places to see. Surprisingly, Bedfordshire is home of many green spaces including many beautiful lakes that offer different activities and new adventures.
Priory Lake, Bedford
Located outside of the city centre, Priory Lakes offers a range of amazing sports activities to do with the family! Priory Lake is the heart of Priory Country Park, which covers 360 acres of green land, including the lake, forest, and meadows.
Priory Lake has been the home of the Sailing Club since it opened in 1980. Members are allowed to sail on weekdays, while non-members can purchase guest tickets for a day pass.
In Priory Lake, you can explore different water sports like paddleboarding, kayaking, and canoeing. There are numerous activities available to families, groups of friends, and solo travellers. Priory Lake is open to fishing, and with the right permit, you can have a full day of fishing for just £49!
Additionally, check out the trails around the lake, as there are many options for those who enjoy a serene walk through the woods and beside the lake to see the most beautiful angles of Priory Lake.
Stewartby Lake, Stewartby
If you are looking for a hiking adventure, Stewartby Lake has different routes that can lead to many new places to explore. The lake is located near Ampthill and has 5.1 kilometres to discover.
The lake trail is nice and easy-going suitable for any kind of sport, from running to biking. Stewartby Lake is just steps away from the Millennium Country Park, a woodland space where picnics, hikes, and exploring the fauna are some of the activities families and friends can enjoy.
Stewartby Lake is a dog-friendly place with nice tracks for the little ones to run, play, or just take a walk. If you are looking to have a lovely day doing some exercise with your pets, this is your choice!
Tiddenfoot lake, Leighton Buzzard
Just a 29-minute walk from Leighton Buzzard town centre, Tiddenfoot Lake is a circular lake where families come to enjoy some picnics by the shore. This lake is near the Grand Union Canal and surrounded by forest and fields.
This lake has easy access for cars and is just a few minutes’ walk once you get into the park. Hiking around it is another fun thing to do, especially since you might see different kinds of trees and wildlife.
Tiddenfoot Lake is a perfect spot to plan some picnics, enjoy the sun, and bring your pets. The lake and surrounding area have a long and rich history dating back to the Romans!
Harrold Odell Country Park, Harrold
This lake is located in northern Bedfordshire, just off the coast of Harrold. Harrold is one of the ancient villages just 60 miles from London. Harrold Odell Country Lake is a Green Flag-awarded space that allows the visitor to explore some of the most amazing nature reserves in Bedfordshire.
Here you will find two lakes that can be visited: Grebe Lake and Kingfisher Water, as well as the River Grand Ouse. There are many different tracks to take for a long hike that will find the best view of the Grebe River.
As well, there is a big nature reserve that can be visited! This area has massive archaeological sites that are well conserved. Don’t forget to visit town, as Harrold is a beautiful village.
Wardown Park, Luton
Located in Luton, Wardown Park has its own long lake that runs through the park. This is an opportunity to relax and walk around. Wardown is just a 20-minute walk from Luton’s city centre.
Wardown has various attractions to offer, such as a boating section that is open to all ages from there you can take a boat ride in the rising spring sun. As well, the lake has a renovated blue bridge in the middle of it that gives the best view of the lake, and you can spot many ducks and swans swimming.
Apart from the lake, visit the Wardown Park Museum, a two-storey old house that contains Luton’s history and allows the visitor to go through its unique artifacts.
